Crystal Asige is a talented artist, songwriter, and advocate for people with disabilities. She lost her eyesight after complications caused by a condition known as glaucoma. The talented music artist has been a living proof that disability is not inability because she uses her voice to entertain her listeners and fans.
Crystal was signed under Sol Generation last year as the only female artiste alongside BenSoul, Kaskazini (a Kenyan urban-fusion trio formed by Chris, Ywaya, and Israel) and Nviiri.
After bursting to fame last year as the first lady on the premium label, Sol Generation, Crystal Asige took the high road and chose to leave for her own leverage. She had featured in Sauti Sol’s Extravaganza which was a massive hit in East Africa and her deep and intriguing voice appeased many listeners.
Crystal eventually decided to leave the record label after an unsolved dispute citing she was unwilling to take just anything given to her.
I wasn’t gonna sit there and just take what’s being given. As much as I’m a ‘disabled’ artiste, I work hard, and I earn everything. I manifest everything. There is no animosity between us. We mutually agreed to go our separate ways.
She said 2019 had been a year of experiences and remains full of gratitude to the posse of artistes, Sauti Sol, that took a chance on her and gifted her the opportunity to blossom by being part of one of the soundtracks of last year, Extravaganza. Despite her decision to leave Sol generation, she made it clear that the said dispute was amicably solved.
“It’s 2020 and this feels like an updated version of me. 2019 was fantastic, but after leaving Sol Generation, I have had one whole year of growth and this will show in the music,” she says.
Bien from the boy band Sauti Sol also said that they are happy Crystal gained exposure and had an opportunity to gain recognition and growth in the music industry. He also responded on why she left Sol Generation,
The dispute was amicably solved and we are glad we worked together for the one year and at least people know Crystal now,” he said.
Crystal now works independently and is currently working on musical projects to be launched soon. Reflecting on leaving one of the most progressive music stables last year, she supports the crew remotely and would encourage anyone to join a music company. She said she is not foreign to being an independent artist and currently enjoys building her brand.
