Black Entertainment Television (BET) has officially announced the final list of the nominees for the 2020 awards set to take place later this month.
Sadly, none of the Kenyan artists who made it to the first round of nominations were able to make it to the final cut for the Best International act award.
Kenya’s biggest boy band Sauti Sol and female rising star Nadia Mukami were the two artists chosen from the country to compete against various multi-talented African artists but they failed to garner enough votes to survive till the last round of nominations.
The award ceremony is set to air on June 28TH while voting for the nominees which is done at the BET official website continues up until Friday June 19th.
The lucky artists chosen from Africa to compete for the Best International act are; Nigeria’s finest Burna Boy, ‘Jonh Cena’ hit maker Sho Madjozi from South Africa and Innos’B from DRC Congo.
Competing against them for the same award will be; Stormzy from UK together with Ninho and S.Pri Noir from France.
This annual event is hosted by BET to celebrate music, film, acting and sports excellence by athletes and artists of colour. And after airing for the past 19 years straight, this year’s ceremony will mark the 20th anniversary of the event.
Drake, Megan thee Stallion and Roddy Rich are the top three artists with the highest number of nominations for this year’s BET.
Drake is leading with six nods while Megan and Roddy following with five each.
Drake’s nominations include Best male hip hop artist, video of the year, and two nominations for best collaboration for his songs with Chris Brown (no guidance) and Future (Life is good).
Megan on the other hand was nominated for Best female hip hop artist, Album of the year, Video of the year, best new artist and Viewers choice categories.
Comedian Amanda Seals is set to host the long awaited mega event which will air live on CBS and other Viacom networks AT 8.00 PM EST come June 28th.
